Technological features of chemical glass matting.

The one who owns the information, rules the world.
What is glass etching.
The treatment in using ‘IVSATIN matting paste,` can be subjected to being a material with a sufficiently high silicon content in its composition. This refers to glass, ceramics, granite, porcelain stoneware, tile, and other similar material.
During the processing; the top layer of glass chemically reacts with the components of the paste. As a result, the glass dissolves and Insoluble salts form on the surface. In which, the glass surface loses 100% transparency. Glass then acquires a whitish color. But not because of the coloring, but because of a change in the optical reflective properties of the surface. An example would be: foggy glass.  The surface which is covered in tiny drops of water, would change the transparency of the glass.
It is important to remember that If the transparent glass is treated with paste; the surface will not have a bright white color as it would on the mirror. The reason for this is because the mirror doubles the lighting due to the reflecting effect. Therefore,  the matte patterns look more effective on the mirror than on transparent glass.
There are three ways to make frosted glass. Mechanical (sandblasting), chemical (paste) and imitation matting (matte film). Let` s consider the advantages and disadvantages of each method.

Chemical matting.
Benefits.
Almost smooth surface, slightly velvety. It looks very rich. The highest image detail with the line thickness is up to 0.2 mm. The surface of chemically frosted glass is absolutely maintenance-free. On the matte surface there are no traces of dirt or greasy spots. All of them are easily removed with soap and water. Therefore, even after many years, the glass will be like new.
Disadvantages.
It is difficult to find a quality matting chemical composition (paste). It is a rather high cost in material, in particular the paste itself. It is almost impossible to uniformly cover a large glass surface (more than 1 sq. M) without spots and halos on a solid background (with the exception of the silk-screen printing method).

Sandblast.
Benefits.
There` s a whiter  surface, rather than after a chemical matting is done. You can evenly matte a piece of glass in any size with the appropriate equipment. You can make very beautiful paintings using deep sandblasting.
Disadvantages.
The sandblasting surface has a texture resembling thin sandpaper. Any dirt, grease, paint remains on the surface almost forever. If you gently rub your fingernail over sandblasted glass, a bright white strip will remain on the surface, which is difficult to remove. All oil stains remain forever, which makes the glass transparent in this place. To avoid the problems above, sandblasted glass should be regularly treated with a hydrophobic liquid, which will significantly hit the budget.

Imitation matting (matte film).
Benefits.
The cheapest way. It does not require additional equipment and stencils.  You can make a beautiful frosted pattern on the glass rather fairly quick.
Disadvantages.
This method of decorating glass is the most short-lived. Films quickly wear out and give glass an unpresentable appearance. This method is suitable for a limited budget. Perhaps the main drawback of the film is the lack of individual drawing. You cannot use your own stencil. You are forced to use standard drawings on film.

How not to buy a fake?
We are the only developers and manufacturers of professional glass matting compounds in Russia (if you don` t take into account the numerous sellers of all surrogate substance types in unknown origins).
Be careful when choosing a glass etch paste supplier! If you decide to buy paste for glass etching not on the manufacturer’s website, but on an ad, just pay attention to the packaging of the goods. This will save you from the risk of buying an unclear substance, maybe spilled somewhere in the barn of a private home with no concern whatsoever. Such sellers do not have their own website, they just do not need it.
Most sellers are not manufacturers, they only pack and sell Chinese surrogates, adding value. Take notice! None of these sellers have photos of their work (the exception makes up of units that are not too lazy to do something for their site). Mostly they use photos from the Internet.

Deception with the consumption of paste for etching glass.
As developers and manufacturers of high-quality matting compositions, we responsibly declare that as much working substance cannot be placed in 1 liter / kilogram of product as is required for high-quality matting (processing, etching) of several square meters of glass surface! An exception is our latest development - paste for glass matting using silk-screen printing, which took 1.5 years to develop.
If you see a promise that the etching paste will be able to process tens of square meters in surface, you can safely close such a website. This is a common hoax.

Deception with absolute harmlessness.
To increase sales, most sellers primarily advertise not the ability of their mixtures to etch (usually they are low), but the alleged "safety" of their pastes for etching glass.
Important to remember! Glass etching pastes in all countries, time periods and nations contain hydrofluoric acid! Without this component, glass cannot be etched. But sellers are hiding this in order to increase their. This statement is specially formulated in an anti-scientific style so that it is understood by all who believe in false adverse descriptions about the absence of hydrofluoric acid in any matting pastes or liquids. This in itself is neither bad nor good. Acids are dangerous depending on the concentration. Therefore, it is necessary to work with any matting compounds in protective gloves. At the very least; protection from skin contact to prevent the absorption of fluoride ions.
Do not fall for the deception of cunning sellers! Choose quality products!.
